Author Interview: F. A. Ibrahim

Today's interview is with Fatimah Ashaela Ibrahim, author of many books which includes children's titles: I Love My Hijab, The Beauty of My Hijab, Yaya and the Mystery Squad, and YA Science Fiction:  The Azurean Trilogy and her newest title, Khadijah Got Her Groove.

Thank you so much for being with us today Fatimah,

Can tell us a little bit about yourself and your book Khadijah Got Her Groove?

I am an Inspirational Author and Artist and I love to work on creative projects that have a purpose. I began writing at a very early age, but got away from it somewhat while in college and focused more on art. I became an Animator and Graphic Artist for a while, and eventually began illustrating Islamic books. After illustrating and authoring a book, I was inspired to begin doing more adult fiction writing. "Khadijah's Got Her Groove came about after meeting the owner of University Publications, Author Zara J. She encouraged me to come up with a story that would be entertaining for Muslim adult audiences. Writing that book has been one of the best experiences of my life.

What was the inspiration behind the book?

I like to present real life challenging situations to my characters. I like to have them look inside to address their fears and worries. The inspiration behind this book, as well as my others, is to give readers a glimpse into the life of someone who grows stronger by being honest with themselves and seeking and following Allah's guidance.

Highlight some of your achievements and challenges while working on Khadijah Got Her Groove.

This book was definitely a wonderful experience. It was both a challenge and a definite achievement to complete the book! Balancing family with creative aspirations can be very tough at times, so I felt really good about finishing writing something that I was very proud of.

Describe your writing style in ten words.

Inspirational. Healing. Loving. Visionary. Faithful.

Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.

Sincere. Loving. Faithful. Positive. Graceful.

Thank you so much sister Fatimah for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your book and publishing experience with us.

Thank you so much for inviting me to do this interview!!!!!XOXOXOXOXOX

  1. Alhamdulillah, this was a great interview. I am a parent of a creative Muslimah, and you express a lot of the same things my daughter has. It is wonderful that young Muslim artist can learn how their fellows deal with the challenges facing them as they ply their craft.
